Philia

Editor, Writer, Photographer, and Graphic Designer

Organization: Philia is Florida State University Panhellenic Associations PR publication, dating back to 2018. The publication covers the 17 individual sorority chapters at the university as well as individual members and when chapters/Panhellenic hosts events all together.

Situation: My first semester with Philia, I was a photographer and shot photos for five different articles. My second semester with Philia, I was a writer and after the pandemic hit, I became an editor and a graphic designer.

Impact: As a photographer, I took headshots for an article that appeared in the magazine and I shot four events that appeared on the blog. The next semester, right after our first pieces were due, the pandemic hit. I had written about a sister who had died from gun violence the year prior and after speaking with her family, I was determined to get the piece published. Panhellenic would not post it as they did not want unequal coverage of the chapters, so I decided that I would write the remaining articles for that semester, edit the three articles that had been written, refresh the blog and transfer it to the new website, and create accompanying cover art for the articles. I worked on all of these articles asynchronously remotely and had everything live in time by the end of the summer. It was powerful to be able to share the stories of successful women, show the strength of sisterhood, and to share the story of the legacy of the sister who passed away. This experience was my first time writing articles in remotely and showed me that I can spearhead big projects like this with success.

Below are the articles I wrote and video that I lead as the interviewer. Click here to view the articles I wrote, edited, and created cover art for when I restarted and refreshed the blog.
